Steamrollers Win One and Lose One in December Tournament

With only four players, one of whom had been sick all week, the Steamrollers beat the BORP Crushers 2-1, in a very close match last Saturday. Matthew Arensdorf led the charge with the first goal of the game by out maneuvering the goalie and defender in the first half. Ryan Connolly sealed the win for the Steamrollers with a near half court direct inbound kick in from sidelines, catching the opposing goalie off guard. The Steamrollers goalie, Kenny Tran, played a strong game with several defensive saves. Sid Karnala played well in the wing position with several close goal scoring opportunities.

The second game, which was played immediately following the Steamrollers first game of the day, was a closely pitched battle between the Hollister Freewheelers and the San Jose Steamrollers. The game was scoreless for the first 37 minutes of the game, as both teams displayed strong offensive and defensive tactics. With three minutes left in the game the Freewheelers scored on a rebound off a corner kick combination. The Steamrollers fought hard in the remaining three minutes to equalize the score, but the Freewheelers defensive stymied their efforts.

Congratulations to Ryan Connolly, Matthew Arensdorf, Kenny Tran, and Sid Karnala for displaying stamina in body and mind, with no relief from the bench, against two very tough opponents.

The Steamrollers are on holiday break until practice starts up again on January 11th. The next games will be hosted by the San Jose Steamrollers & San Jose Rockets on January 25th & 26th at their home gym, the Alviso Community Center, in San Jose, CA. Teams will be attending from Southern California, Berkeley, Hollister, Fresno, and Hayward, so it should be another action packed weekend of Power Soccer in San Jose.
